Sclerotherapy – Removal of Leg Veins

Thread veins on the legs are a big problem to many women. Although they might not be as unsightly as the dreaded ‘varicose vein’, the thread or spider vein can cause just as much disruption when it comes to confidence.

Thread veins are extremely common, especially in jobs that require a lot of standing such as hair dressing and waitressing.

Many women get embarrassed by the sight of the veins, especially when it comes to the summer months and the prospect of dreaded bikinis or beachwear season.

Thread veins on the face and chest are best treated with an IPL treatment (see “Facial Thread Veins”).

Sclerotherapy is a very minimally invasive treatment carried out by our doctors. It involves the use of a tiny needle to flush a small amount of medication into the thread veins to cause them to dissolve away.

Patients tend to comment on a very slight pricking sensation as the injections are being performed. We recommend an average of 1 – 3 treatments.

Prior to Treatment

Please refrain from using any creams, oils, lotions, tanning or perfumed products on the area on the treatment day or the day after.

Following the Treatment

After the first day of treatment the skin around the vein is a little pink and blotchy. Occasionally people with more sensitive skin see more pinkness or reaction around the vein. Usually a bruise is noticeable at the treated site. This usually disappears within a few weeks.

It is not advisable to have a very hot bath or shower or use any additional bath products on the treatment day or the day after.

You should avoid prolonged sitting, standing, pounding types of exercise, squatting or heavy weight lifting after the treatment. You are encouraged to walk after the treatment.

You are advised to avoid alcohol and aspirins 24 hours before and after treatment.

PRICES START FROM JUST £250

Sclerotherapy is usually charged at £300 for the first session and then £250 for any additional sessions (if required).
